New Gas Safety Accreditation

Capita Gas Compliance (CGCS) have unveiled a new UKAS accreditation gas safety certification scheme.  The scheme is set to provide a benchmark of best practice for UK gas engineers.  The idea is it allows businesses to show how they are going ‘above and beyond’ the standard practice within the industry.

However, the issue many people have with the new scheme is how it could undermine the work of the Gas Safe register which is the benchmark for industry standards and safety.  In order to work on any gas appliance/installation you have to be Gas Safe registered and abide by the legal requirements set out by the register.

The new accreditation has proved controversial within the industry with many gas engineers calling it unnecessary and confusing for both engineers and the public.  The Gas Safe register is seen as the industry standard all have to adhere to.  However, now there appears to be two separate accreditations businesses have to be part of.

Time will tell how the scheme will play out and whether it really will be an effective use of time and money.

What are your thoughts on the scheme, will you use it for your business?  Please email info@easysafetycert.co.uk with feedback.
